"Fresh and nicely textured, the 2024 ‘Blue Jay’ is loaded with bright red fruits with damp earth, tobacco leaf and shades of salty damp soils. Concentrated and delicious, this saw some stem inclusion."

2024 WALT Blue Jay Pinot Noir

Tasting notes

The 2024 Blue Jay Pinot Noir opens with inviting aromas of black cherry, wild blueberry, and oakmoss accented by a hint of black tea. Our signature inclusion of roasted stems in fermentation lends savory spice and structural lift to the smooth, silky palate. Concentrated dark fruit flavors unfold with freshness and energy, leaving a lingering impression of briar and warm earth.

Vintage Notes

The 2024 vintage began with much-needed winter rainfall that revitalized the soil and set the stage for healthy vine growth and a balanced crop. Summer was marked by mostly moderate temperatures, with a brief burst of warmth around Labor Day, when well-developed canopies shielded the fruit from excess heat. As harvest approached, mild daytime temperatures and cool nights arrived, allowing for steady ripening into September. The resulting wines showcase beautiful color and depth, with precise acidity, rich texture, and concentrated flavors.
